Mental health first aid

This Effective Learning course can be delivered either in-person or online

what does mhfa cover?

With this Mental Health First Aid training you will be able to support others who are experiencing mental health issues. 


The course includes learning risk factors, warning signs and how to implement strategies.    


Topics covered include:  

1. Trauma  

2. Anxiety Disorders  

3. Psychosis  

4. Depression and mood disorders  

5. Substance use disorders   


This certified training has proven beneficial for those working in aged care facilities and home care residential facilities, as well as for people with family, friends or work colleagues who are experiencing mental health

How is the course delivered?

 Mental Health First Aid  requires 12 hours in total


Option 1 - in-person

Conducted over 2 days for 6 hours each day.


Option 2 - online

Component 1: Self-paced learning (approximately 7 hours)

Component 2:  Instructor led session for 5 hours via Zoom 


What are the benefits of becoming MHFA Accredited?

As a First Aider, you will be able to:  

  • Understand the important factors affecting mental health  
  • Identify the signs and symptoms for a range of mental health problems  
  • Use the ALGEE Action Plan to provide Mental Health First Aid to someone experiencing a mental health problem or crisis  
  • Listen non-judgementally and hold supportive conversations about mental health problems  
  • Guide a person towards seeking appropriate professional help and other supports, as your role as a Mental Health First Aider does not replace the need for ongoing support  
  • Support a mentally healthy workplace and understand how Mental Health First Aid fits in the workplace.
